Top Tennis Around Town

The Sarasota area is no stranger to sports—we’ve sung the praises of local Major League Baseball training and golf—so it’s no surprise that tennis is at the top of a long list of recreational sports embraced by our community. Among the many academies, clubs, clinics and tourneys here, you’ll find one of the most famous tennis programs of all time, IMG Academy Bollettieri, practically in our backyard. We’ve been running the Sarasota Open every April since 2008, and there are literally dozens and dozens of courts to be found throughout the area. Those who love to swing a racquet will find tennis season is extended here.

Longboat Key Public Tennis Center, Longboat Key

This inviting tennis hub features ten beautifully maintained open courts and plenty of opportunity to meet like-minded players—there’s a round robin league, as well as  tournament play. Get a boost from certified instructors who run lessons and clinics. A pro shop supplies everything you need to play.

Sarasota Bath & Racquet Club, Sarasota

A local institution, Bath & Racquet has 29 clay and hard courts, many of them lit for evening play. Beyond that, its claim to fame is its abundant programming and convivial atmosphere. The club is popular, offering leagues, teams and great instruction from pro teachers. A true family club, Bath & Racquet also provides a fully-equipped gym, racquetball and squash courts, pool, fitness classes, pro shop and a restaurant.

Sarasota Sports Club, Sarasota

With its 19 Har-Tru clay courts (nearly all of them lit) overlooking a lake, this club offers a diverse menu of instruction and programming options. Match arranging, private instruction, clinics and much more are available here, at this elegant and yet friendly fitness facility. A huge clubhouse, heated pool and and full-service restaurant are just a few of the other perks.

Improve your game at this sleek, modern facility, where the emphasis is on learning for all skill levels. High performance training, conditioning and tournament coaching are just the tip of the iceberg as to what’s available instruction-wise here, but additional fitness classes and bootcamps sweeten the deal.

Sarasota Open 

Held this year at Laurel Oak Country Club, the Elizabeth Moore Sarasota Open brings some of the world’s best players to the area every April, giving tennis enthusiasts plenty of action to enjoy when they aren’t playing themselves.
