Now thru 5/4/08: Jacob Lawrence: Three Series of Prints Hiroshima, Genesis, and Toussaint L’Ouverture
Now thru 8/10/08: Phantasmagoria: Spectors of Absence. Mist, breath, and fog are often associated with mystery; in their double status as perceptible yet almost nonexistent phenomena, they suggest evanescence or absence. "Jacob Lawrence: Three Series of Prints "
Presented by the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art through May 4, 2008. This exhibition will celebrate National Black History Month in February at the Ringling Museum. Theater and educational programs in conjunction with the exhibition will provide a complete cultural experience for visitors to the estate. This exhibition features 44 framed works including 31 color prints and 13 text pages from the three Series. The three themes show the depth of Mr. Lawrence’s grasp of social injustice, nationally and internationally. And thus while his works are charged politically they also retain their artistic merit lending to objects deep integrity and dignity. The exhibition is organized by the Landau Traveling Exhibitions.
