The Beaches of Longboat Key
No matter what attraction you may be thinking about on your trip to Florida, nothing says "Florida Vacation" like a day at the beach in winter. And some of the best beaches in the world are right here in Longboat Key. The fine white sand is perfect for a barefoot stroll and the surf is generally calm and relaxing. Water temperatures also make the beach accessible almost all year.
Unless you are a resident or staying at one of the resorts, there is very little available in the way of public beaches. There are, however, several Beach Access points with free limited parking at Longview Drive, Westfield Street, Mayfield Street and Neptune Avenue. As a result, the beach that
stretches the entire length of the key is not very crowded and a good spot for shelling. Sand dollars are plentiful at times near the sandbars just off the shoreline.
Parking is very limited unless you are staying at one of our vacation rentals. You'll find accommodations as varied as luxurious high-rise condominiums to rental vacation condos & villas to single-family homes, most with private beaches or bayfront with access to Sarasota Bay. This island paradise has no billboards, glaring signs or shopping malls - all shops, restaurants, etc. are tastefully hidden by tropical foliage.
Take home shells and sand dollars for your friends who have to remain up north while you bask in the sun!
