The Banyan Theater Company
Before 2002, there wasn't much for the serious theatergoer to see in the way of classic theater. You could catch the occasional musical or light comedy, but the summer lacked a more challenging venue. But that all changed when the Banyan started producing plays.
The Banyan Theater Company, located on Florida’s cultural coast, has as its mission to produce professional theater in the summer. The company showcases outstanding actors performing in internationally celebrated plays. Works by playwrights such as George Bernard Shaw, Chekhov, Ibsen, Pinter and Stoppard are featured to provide the community with a unique theater experience.

The Retreat from Moscow by William Nicholson
Now thru August 6, 2006
This regional premiere centers on a couple married for 33 years. Their son visits them for the weekend – the weekend his father has decided to leave his mother for another woman. The Retreat from Moscow is a most literate and engrossing experience and one that should not be missed.

In this recent comedy by the author of Art, Henri and Sonia are having a rough evening. First, their six-year-old son refuses to go to sleep. Then dinner guests show up for dinner on the wrong night, with nothing but wine and junk food in the house. So when Hubert, Henri’s superior, and his rebellious wife Inez arrive, one disaster leads to another, and increasing amounts of Sancerre guzzling, and the stage is set for a very funny and devastating comedy.
